Picked this up recently at ShopRite Liquors in Little Falls as I hadn't had anything from Hoboken in a while and I was drawn to this by the artistic label. Sure, this was an IPA but it tasted and poured so clean that I could have easily mistaken this for an IPL as it was quite blonde in appearance and crisp on the palate which indeed, made this beer a fresh start of sorts!
Bright, golden, and lovely, this had a good pour to it as the head was sufficient and didn't settle too quickly, although the lacing left behind was surprisingly nonexistent. A moderate amount of pineapple, apricot, and Bru-1was in the nose as a bit of clean banana, fruit cocktail, and a hint of cantaloupe came through on the palate once this warmed up. Slick, sticky on my lips, and subtly juicy, this had enough balance to it but could have used a bit more carbonation to liven things up. A bit of dough and bread gave this enough body as the flavors felt quite outdoorsy, to the point of having a post-rainstorm feel to them.
Dated 6/16 on the bottom of the can, this aged fine as there wasn't anything in the liquid or any indication on my palate that this was past it's prime. The amount of booze was spot-on and in some odd way, I saw this as a cleanser between the heavier beers that I've been reviewing on here lately. While that wasn't Hoboken's intent, this was a decent IPA that was unoffensive while deviating from the norm enough to hold my interest from the get-go. The artistic label was a plus but overall, this was quite mellow and a welcome change from the usual hazy, hop bombs that come from this neck of the woods!
