Hazy Double IPA with Sauvignon Blanc Grapes and Nelson Sauvin Hops We double-downed on the white wine, white peach, gooseberry experience in this beer. Not only is it filled with amazing Nelson hop flavor, but we fermented it with Sauvignon Blanc grape must. This lended a sharper note with some tannin and grape flavors on the finish. Amazing blend (Cuvee) of flavors in this fun package!

Copenhagen 10/12 2020. 47,3 cl can from Mikkeller Web-hop. A double landscape on the can - one upside down and the other in a more conventional position.

Pours opaque, hazy, golden yellow with a small white head. Settles as thin, flimsy layer of foam unable to cover the surface of the beer.

Aroma is moderately intense with a sweet fruity odor mingling with alcohol and citrus fruit. Peach and sweet grapes. Citrus and grape fruit. Touch of pine trees. Mustard.

Light carbonation. Medium thick, soft, smooth, almost flat texture.

Flavor is medium intense with a fairly strong sweetness followed and balanced by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste is sweetish with a strong bitter undercurrent. Lingers for a while. Finish is semi-dry.

Quite gentle and subtle for a DIPA and avoids being overly boozy. Quite elegant.

L: Poured from a tallboy can to a snifter glass. Had an orangish color and a pretty cloudy consistency. There was a quarter inch of foamy, somewhat long-lasting head. Not much lacing to speak of.

S: A decent, but not spectacular, aroma of citrus fruit, hops, a vinous quality, malt, and peaches.

T: Tasted of a decent amount of the vinous quality (white grapes, in particular), a little bit of peach (sweet, yet oddly subtle), some hops (definitely not overdone, but certainly present), a tinge of malt (mostly in the finish), and a bit of citrus fruit (orange, especially). This is an uneven flavor. It needs a bit more power. Still, not bad.

F: An average amount of carbonation with a smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: An uneven beer, but it has bright spots. Worth a try.

Pours a hazy light orange with fine, soapy head.

Smell is fruity and juicy, a bit sweet. Notes of grapes, gooseberries, elderflower and citrus.

Taste follows the nose, and adds notes of white wine and grape skins. Quite dry and slightly vinous on the finish, with a soft bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium, soft and well carbonated.

Overall, a very interesting Nelson experiment.
