wanted to like this more, thinking we either got a very early or a very late pour from this, totally murky and sedimented and unappealing looking, sloppy, disappointing, more brown than black, flat, thick, chunky, just not nice looking at all. the nose is alright, walnut aspect is there, cocoa too, a vanilla type sweetness also abounds, must be the marshmallow, which i still dont think makes much sense as a beer ingredient, hints of molasses and maple in the mix, chalky though, yeasty and unrefined, tootsie roll notes for sure. the flavor is muddled, disjointed, and unnecessarily sweet, and there is no way this is what it is supposed to be, bummer because i was looking forward to a beer from these guys, and with the walnuts is sounds nice on paper, but the nuttiness ends up behind all the sweetness and somewhat generic, the chocolate is way forward and that part is good, but the whole this is sticky gooey sweet from the marshmallow aspect, which if it belongs in this at all needs to be way back from where its at. i do get some vanilla, some middle malt richness, and some light roast, but this doesnt seem as stouty overall as i expected it to, its big and weird and just totally messy, almost chocolate milk more than beer vibes to it, and i think a miss overall, at least how we had it on tap anyway. thick and flat, feels totally unrefined, like the trub in the bottom of a fermenter, seriously that rough. id revisit this again from the can to compare, and im still curious about this brewery, but this was pretty rough...

Poured a black body with minimal head. Decent chocolate aroma with some minor dryness. Smooth, slightly creamy, a little sticky, has a smooth chocolate sweetness with minimal dryness as beer hides booze and has a slick lactic feel (and if you concentrate hard enough some fake marshmallow fluff).

A: The beer is very dark black in color. It poured with a quarter finger high head. It poured with a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of chocolate malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste is very chocolately and has fudge-like flavors.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O : This beer is easy to drink and hides its alcohol very well.
Serving type: can
