A thin and loose ecru head barely develops before it opens to a fine ring. The beer is black (SRM 40+) with very dark cola highlights. The highlights through a Pretentious Glass Company snifter demonstrate that the beer is clear.
Mild day-old coffee grinds linger in the background with very light roasted malt as an afterthought.
The flavor is surprisingly mild in every respect. The roasted malt has a light char and is more obvious than the aroma had suggested. Black coffee is secondary and barely noticeable. Light bitterness balances the sweetness. Thankfully, the finish is mild and brief.
It has a full body and slick, smooth texture. The alcohol is as expected, while the carbonation is modest and soft.
As a stout, this is drinkable, but nothing special. I enjoyed it out back during a mild March afternoon.
