its rare that sour beer is also sweet, especially in this front end sour berliner type style, the acidity almost always overcomes any sweetness from grain or fruit, unless you are grimm and spike them with lactose and vanilla, but the residual sugar here really caught me off guard. a bright and sunny glass of beer with a curious nose of clean lacto, sweet candied tangerine (and tangerine specifically, not orange or anything, its really authentically tangerine), and an herbal sort of freshness, springy and appealing, but oddly sweet, my mouth doesnt water from this like it does from many sours. the flavor is cool, i get the juicy hops right away with the tangerine, a really nice complexion, citra maybe, lemony and fully compatible. the sourness brings both of them to the fore even though it is quite moderate in overall acidity, but its very clean and it hits at the right moment. i wish it all stopped there, but then this odd sweetness comes on, and there is a vanilla note to it but its not desserty, it seems flawed to me, i dont know if its from the grain or some additive, but to me it ruins the quenching vibe i like from these, and it covers up the freshness of the fruit and the hops, lingering long and sort of confectiony on my palate. dry this one out and you have a winner. for now it seems like sour beer for folks who dont like sour beer...
