Appearance: Pours a rather clear, dark amber to black color but leans in the middle with dark bronze hues. A medium tan head emerges and lingers. (4.00)
Aroma: Strong aromas of brown bread, a slight peat and smoke aroma. Some caramel and pine develop underneath. Lightly roasted.
Flavor: Strong flavors of brown bread, charredand slightly roasted. Smoke emerges, lingers for a bit before it turns into a smooth brown bread malt and mild caramel flavor. Surprisingly finishes fairly smooth, malty, yet dry. (4.00)
Feel: Medium bodied, appropriate carbonation, surprisingly light smoky, malty, yet clean finish.
Overall: My first Scottish Ale other than 90 Shilling from Odell. It has brown bread, peat and smoke, caramel, yet a clean and dry finish. The amount of smoke is pleasant here and not overdone. Keeps it clean and still drinks fairly dry.Overall this is very tasty, even on a hot summer day.
