Body poured an attractive gold with a nice fluffy head. A thin head remained throughout the tasting, but there was only minor lacing.

Nose was present but not overwhelming Wafts of grain, bread, sweet cracker and floral notes from the Noble hops.

The taste followed nose with a nice sweetness from the malt bill. Just enough hops to almost balance the malt. Solid carbonation and strong malt yield a good mouthfeel. Very drinkable on a warm day like today. Though strong at 7.6%, the ABV is well hidden on this golden lager.

6-pack of 500ml bottles from the brewery.
Pours a golden color with a finger thick white head. Fair retention.
Taste has distinctive toasted malt with quite a sweet note. Hops stay in the background.
Medium body with moderate carbonation.
I like the beer, the sweet note makes me coming back for more. With 7.6%ABV it is quite drinkable.

Sparkling gold with a tall, off-white foam head settling to a thin creamy blanket.

Sweet honey graham accented by reddish grape makes up the majority of the frothy medium body. A touch of floral hop surfaces before finishing bone dry.

Yep, it's a maibock, and while not my favorite style, it's better than most. No surprise there, being from Wooly Pig.

---

Revisiting in 2025 during Maifest, this time out of the holzfass, it's a little more quaffable than I typically find the style. Tangy plum skin meets honey wheat in a soft body. This comes to a crisp, semi-dry finish that exhales mild leaves and a hint of lemony pithy hops. The faintest hint of phenol nears grahamy tripel qualities at times.

I have finally decided that an apt description of maibock is tripel-light, but this was certainly a better pour than most, for me.

I think it was about 7.5% ABV.
Poured a nice golden color, with a fine head. A bright bier.
slight bready aroma and good maltiness. Proper mouthfeel for this style.
Tasted just right if you ask me. Very low bitterness.
Not totally "easy drinking", but something I could probably imbibe several of without realizing what that 7.5% will do.

Big thanks to Corey for finding Maibock and sending it to me. I owe you.

Wooly Pig Maibock looks beautiful. Bright gold, almost perfectly clear. I can see my fingers on the back of the glass through it, but not my finger prints. That clear. A nice and dense white head rests comfortably above and actually leaves vertical streaks of lace as I put more and more of Maibock in Maimouth.

It smells great too. Like a Helles on steroids. Like it should. Extra bready, extra spicy. Toasted biscuits bready with an interesting peanut butter background before those magical old world hops shed some pepper spiced dried flowers.

This is pretty rich. It's definitely a bit buttery, but not diacytl buttery. More like apple or pear butter spread thinly on those fresh baked biscuits, paired up with some champagne. Shit, that's it! Kind of reminds me of a Chardonnay. Until those wonderful spicy hops take their lead and carry it off stage with a lot of white pepper.

As with the aroma and flavor, this harmoniously stays to it's rich elements. Smooth, a bit oily and thick, yet has some carbonation that desperately tries to cut through. A bit hot too, but not insane.

It's not a light, crisp, easy drinking Maibock, that's for sure. But it is good. Very good in fact. You wouldn't see me pound glass after glass of this, but then again you never know. It is Maibock season after all.

Thanks again Corey. Prost!
