Full-bodied Bavarian brown lager brewed with 15% rye for a spicy complement to the underlying malty sweetness.

Very unique but still approachable beer. Very well done. I think of this as an all occasion beer. Not thin but not so thick that you would turn it down on a warm day. Refreshing and satisfying. Really need more than one to really explore it. All kinds of subtle tastes. Need to bottle this one please. WPFB rocks. I mourn the dearth of rye beers anymore.

I tried this beer off the tapper at the brewery as part of a five sample flight. It poured a clear dark amber with thin off white ring head that did not leave any lace. The scent had hints of sweet malt and rye. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with sweet German dark malt and rye presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it was a great beer.

Appearance is mahogany or lighter cherry varnish that actually becomes almost purple under sunlight as the chill haze settles off. A short, dense tan blanket develops, which is fairly impressive within this wide-rimmed half liter glass, slowly settling out to a thin yet persistently creamy ring.

A super delicious malt expression pairs with a unique yet faint farmhouse quality of some sort that I don't often get in lagers, sort of like straw. The malt's semi-sweet dark wheat is accented by a lightly tingly herbal tang before exhaling a luxurious Brazil nut character. There's almost a hint of coffee, and there's certainly an appreciated touch of rye that's more like a mild wood presence, adding a subtle yet very welcome complexity.

This is so insanely crushable in flavor, only made more so by the silky round but medium-light body. Its fine carbonation comes to a cleanly semi-dry.

A damn near perfect beer--I'm absolutely floored by the clarity of expression.

Finally made to this brewery...
The rye Dunkel is quite sweet with a good malty backbone.
Easy to drink with a medium body and good carbonation.
Very much enjoyed this one!

Clear, dark brown body topped with a thick, foamy head. Rich, malty smell with a bit rye spiciness; roasted grain. Rich flavor, caramel notes with the rye adding a touch of spiciness; moderate malt sweetness; low-key bitterness. Medium body; soft and lightly velvety, almost thin in character; very mild residual sugar stickiness.

This beer brings some fine, well-rounded flavors to the palate. It has great eye appeal and the aroma is enticing. It does feel slightly weak, but is otherwise a very fine beer.

Looks like a glass of grade b (or, Grade A dark amber whatever they call it now) maple syrup. Pretty damn dark. Very nice just thick enough mouthfeel, and not to be extremely predictable but it does have a rye bread kind of thing going on. Nose is more a familiar/standard german lager nose, rye really comes through in the taste and lingers nicely. If you've ever been around a 50# sack of rye berries in a bakery or the whole foods bulk section you'll recognize this note. Reminds me of good german vollkornbrot. This is one of those lighter 5-6% abv dark lagers that really punch above their weight flavor wise. Slight grassiness coming out as it warms. I'm thinking this would be lovely with smoked salmon.
