A double of our dunkel, this hearty, brown lager is the traditional "meal in a glass".

Lightly hazy chestnut brown, nearly red even, with a tall puffy tan head that swiftly settles to a thin but creamy ring.
A wonderful pumpernickel maltiness almost verges into gingersnap without that sort of charred intensity, yet still with a nearly spiced sort of tang, like a hint of zucchini bread. It then returns to a satisfying malt toastiness like whole grain wheat bread with a touch of caramel and even honey butter, yet tempered by a stealthily balancing suggestion of bitterness.
The medium body has a beautifully velvety carbonation that maintains a level presence from the start on into the cleanly tingly, softly dry and lightly warming finish.
This ode to their mangalitsa pigs made me so happy I had to snag me a 64oz growler of this springtime treat.

Had to settle for a 4oz taster since the bottles were gone just shortly before I checked out...
A very nice example of a Dopplebock.
Malty sweetness with a nice caramel note. Full body with good carbonation.
I wish I could stay and have another one...

Huge thanks to Corey for this beer that's right in my wheel house...
Off to a great start as Manganator pours my favorite shade crimson kissed amber. Exceptional clarity with a decent khaki colored cap that leaves a creamy looking ring and modest lacing.
Good times keep rolling as classic toasted bread with hints of raisins and caramel stream into the nostrils. Not exactly punch you in the face sweetness as some Doppelbocks can be, but a nice, smooth creep without any frills.
The flavor, however, slaps a bit harder. Still not intense on the sugary staples, but caramel, fig, and raisins make themselves present. Only a touch of toastiness while lacking that bready, biscuity element, but an unexpected cola-like blend of spices is a nice twist and surprise.
On that note, it does feel somewhat cola-like as well due to a high level of tingling carbonation, a thinner body, and dryness in the finish. Well balanced with sweetness folding into spice, and...what the fuck? 8.0%!? No way anyone could detect that.
Manganator (damn that's fun to say. And write.) is a pretty damn good doppel. It could benefit only, if anything, from a lifter more rich of a feel and a bigger bready wallop. But no complaints here. I'd be happy to drink this anytime.
