April 2015: Cask half pint at the Whitesmiths Arms (an Arkells pub), Gloucester. Deep golden to copper colour, low head. Malty aroma and flavour, a little tingling fruit in the finish. Not very bitter.

Bottled And possibly bottle conditioned due to the solid body and head retention above a slightly hazy golden body creates a real treat, a specific bitter that's actually good bottled

golden amber in color and lots of carbonation collected on the side of my imperial pint glass and delightful fluffy head
crackers, like fresh baked bread on the nose smells so nice and grainy
amazing flavors, so grainy and bready malts that are so well balanced against the nice dry hops
nicely carbonated, medium body and just enough astringence to finish clean
this is just a nice beer, sessionable, tasty this is just a quality beer. It's nothing too special, doesn't require thought to enjoy it's just tasty and balanced. I would like to give this to a BMC type it's like giving a wonder bread eater a loaf of whole grain bread.

A tribute beer brewed in secret for Peter Arkell's 80th birthday... Isn't that sweet!
500ml bottle. They say that the color is 'Midnight'. Er. Well, it is dark and all, so why not?
It pours just fine and it has a head and all - but I'm quite sure that this bit doesn't interest you. No, the important bit is the taste. Ah, well...
This beer is very fruity. I mean, really, quite fruity. Gently, lightly, strongly fruity. Sigh. So much for my description, eh? Let's see... It has a very full and complete mouth flavor - all of the tongue is getting involved and yet, no single part is overwhelmed in the least. This means, in particular, that it's not sweet (though you can taste the maltiness), not citrusy/acid (though you can taste those hops), not too bitter (though you get the idea that they did use hops in it for bitterness). This makes for a very well-rounded beer.
Distribution is probably pretty limited by geography - it surely helps to be near Swindon - and by the fact that it's a limited edition. Still, you might get lucky if you're in the area in September - they're going to do a special brew for the 160th anniversary of the brewery!
