A 330ml bottle with a BB of April 2018. Purchased recently from Trembling Madness in York. Described on the label as a New England IPA hopped with Amarillo and Mosaic.
A: Poured into an IPA glass. Bottle conditioned; contains a ton of yeast sediment. Exceptionally hazy - almost opaque. A deep amber colour with good carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a persistent surface layer.
S: Aroma of vaguely fruity hops with hints of subtle citrus, hay, a general leafiness, earthy yeast, a touch of spice and mild caramel malt. Possesses a muddled vegetal character that pervades the aroma. Subpar - yeasty and reminiscent of homebrew.
T: Tastes of fruity aromatic hops with notes of mild citrus, a touch of tropical fruit, subtle pine resin, grass/hay, leafiness, earthy yeast, caramel malt and stewed hops. Pretty dry, followed by a substantial hoppy bitterness upon swallowing. More balanced than the aroma but still dominated by the yeast.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with soft carbonation and decent body for the strength. Quite astringent; dries the palate. Aftertaste of bitter aromatic hops, vague fruitiness, earthy yeast, spice and faint malt.
O: Hmmm, so-so. Looks alright, however the aroma is decidedly off-kilter and the flavour isn't much better. The hop character is muddled and subdued, while the yeast presence is excessive. Body is OK but a tad flat. I can't tell if this has faded or the yeast is overdeveloped. Perhaps just a batch issue. If you choose to sample - caveat emptor.
