500 ml bottle
Pours opaque black. No light penetration. Head is deep brown and dissipates to nothing quickly.
Aroma of cocoa, mint, vanilla, coffee, oak, cinnamon, marshmallow, rye, and molasses.
Flavor starts with marshmallow, vanilla, and rye. Gives way to masses, cocoa, maybe some honey and nondescript spice. Oak and bourbon come through in the aftertaste. Lingers quite a bit.
Full body with tingly carbonation on the tongue, boozey warmth in the mouth and all the way down the throat.
This is a very rich and slow drinking stout as is expected. Definitely an all night sipper. The sweetness is borderline cloying but manageable given how much patience the beer demands. I like 95% of the flavor quite a lot, but there's an odd note early in the evolution that took some getting used to. I can't tell what it is for sure and maybe I'd be less critical if I could place it. It might be some flavor clash between the mint and rye elements. But it mellows a lot as the beer warms. All in all, solid rich stout and my first experience with the Douse line. I will be looking forward to what else this series has to offer.
