A: Pours an opaque yet still clear jet black in color with light to moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and faint dark cola brown + dark chestnut brown + dark amber + dark golden yellow colored highlights. The beer has a finger tall dark tan head that quickly reduces to a small to medium sized patch of very thin film covering approximately 15% of the surface of the beer and a very thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of roasted + toasted + caramel + toffee + chocolate + spicy rye malts with moderate amounts of caramel + toffee + dark fruit (fig +plum) sweetness. Moderate aromas of tobacco + leather along with moderate aromas of cognac + rum + bourbon + toasted oak + vanilla. Light aromas of earthy + spicy hops.

T: Upfront there are moderate to strong flavors of roasted + toasted + caramel + toffee + chocolate + spicy rye malts with moderate amounts of caramel + toffee + dark fruit (fig +plum) sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of of tobacco + leather along with moderate aromas of cognac + rum + bourbon + toasted oak + vanilla. Finally there are light flavors of spicy + earthy hops which impart a light to moderate amount of lingering bitterness. Moderate to heavy amounts of lingering cognac + malt + dark fruit flavors.

M: Full bodied with light amounts of carbonation. Smooth with moderate amounts of alcohol warming in the finish.

O: Easy to drink considering the strength with decently hidden alcohol and a full warming mouthfeel. Enjoyable with tons of malt complexity and lots of barrel/spirit character. Definitely a slow sipper and would have been perfect sitting in front of a roaring fire but will do by the fire pit outside on a temperate spring evening.
