OJ in Bubbly Space Tartshake - from Cinderlands. 16 fl oz can purchased from Franklin Beer Co, Franklin, PA, 30/05/24, $ 6.00 (Including tax), $ 0.375/fl oz. Reviewed 13/06/24 (Review 3296). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated can. Stored in reefer at the distributor, 34 degrees at home. Served at 46.9 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 52.8 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Pale Gold (SRM 4), slight haze. Note: unpasteurized and unfiltered.
Body – Pale Gold (SRM 4), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, same.
Head – Large (Maximum five cm, aggressive center pour), pale orange, high density, good retention, Slooowly dropping to a 1.0 – 1.6 cm jagged crown and complete cap. Second pour produces a 0.6 cm regular crown and cap.
Lacing – Poor. Just a single arc of tiny bubbles remains as the level drops.
Aroma – 3.25 – When tab is popped, citrus. No yeast, no malt, no alcohol (? % ABV, not marked on can nor on the website.)
Flavor – 3 – Mildly bitter generic citrus, tending toward orangish. No yeast, no malt, no alcohol. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Eventual faint gastric warming.
Palate – 4 – Medium; creamy; soft carbonation.
Final Impression and summation: 3.25 (After deducting 0.25 point for an undated personal container) To my taste, strange. Lactose and citrus make an odd combination of mildly sweet and obviously tart. I’ll try to find a couple more examples of the style – not sure if I like it or not.
