draft pour into snifter. near black with a thin dark khaki head that leaves a thin collar. heavy oak on the nose and taste. bourbon, chocolate and caramel are there in the background but it’s got more barrel character than adjunct character. in fact, the barrel seems to really define this beer, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but also not a great thing either as it’s more oak-forward than bourbon. once it warms the caramel pops a little more in the nose but the taste is mostly dry, roasted malts and oak. mouthfeel is medium-feel leaning a little to the thinner side. it’s enjoyable but i was hoping for a little more dessert-like qualities. and while the barrel treatment is certainly present, it’s almost a little too much whiskey sting. not bad though.
