On tap @ the Bent Elbow - poured a hazed burnished deep copper color with a 1 finger off-white cap....aromas of toasted malts, light caramel, grassy hops....soft mouthfeel (soft water), mild character malt forward lager....taster follows aroma with chewy toasted dark bread tones and light caramel over herbaceous woody hops, very smooth long finish with a honey-like kiss at the end...decent amber lager...satisfying and flavorful.

Pours lighter in colour than the name might suggest. Very small head. The smell is of caramel and malts. The taste is mild, on the sweet side, which seems to be typical for this style. Light carbonation.

473 ml can served fairly cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for around $3.25 CDN.
Appearance - Dark reddish brown brew with good clarity and capped with a finger of light tan head that fades quickly.
Smell - Lots of grainy notes, subtle hints of chocolate and more of caramel. Just a touch of spiciness in there.
Taste - Pretty close to perfect. Plenty of grainy, some breadiness, subtle bits of chocolate powder, a touch of caramel. Leans sweet but with enough bitterness to balance it out. Everything fits together just perfectly. Good flavor even in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, moderate expressive carbonation, fits with the flavors perfectly.
Overall - Maybe I was just thirsty or in the mood for a good dark lager, but the balance here is excellent and super tasty, flavorful without pulling too much in one direction. If I see more of this fine beer, I will be picking up quite a few more. Definitely worth a shot.
