Inky black with shades toward twilight. Light khaki colored head. Aroma is understated coffee, honey, caramel, char, roast, burnt fig; definitely not the most intense. In the taste, I am walloped by a lot of floral lavender and spearmint. Spice of wild sarsaparilla along with notes of vanilla and root beer. Strong roast component; bittersweet chocolate and dark molasses. Very floral, woodsy, wild and rustic tasting for a stout. Not a a lot of your typical sweetness, and not a lot of your typical dried fruit flavor. Med-full body, but the feel is quite light and smooth. No cloying, but not really rich/decadent. A little dry roast in the finish. It's really drinkable, especially for a stout even when it's warm. If you wanted to call this an herb/spiced root beer with stout tendencies I'd be okay with that.
