Got this one from Doops. Cheers dude!

Imperial porter with English licorice
APPEARANCE: Clear brown pour yields a 2+ finger, medium-thinner, crackly, foamy, light cream colored heat with half-decent retention. Clear bistre brown body with no real carbonation evident. Head fades to a foamy cap and eventually to a full foamy wisp. Splotchy wisp remains and leaves some decent lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Dark fruit notes, some black malt, light burnt notes, touches of chocolate and quite a bit of licorice. The licorice is definitely the forerunner but the other aromas are there to be found.
TASTE: Licorice is up front with some dark fruits and burnt notes at the swallow. Pretty piercing aftertaste with lots of anise, licorice, dark fruit sweetness and some hop bitterness. Notes of chocolate try to push through but the sharper anise is the main player here.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. A touch lighter on the palate than I’d like perhaps, goes down okay with a bit of a scratch and finishes a touch sticky on the palate. A bit more weight would be nice, but this is alright.
OVERALL: Okay, but I find the anise a little too much. I will admit that licorice is not my favorite adjunct to use in a porter or stout, so take my commentary with a grain of salt. The feel and look are pretty decent, so this is a well-made brew, but I’d tone down the licorice additions just a touch. Thanks again for tracking this one down Doops. Cheers!
