This one was poured from fridge temp, but allowed to warm over 30-40 min. Pours motor oil black with quickly receding tan head. Aroma is really nice - quite fruity and sweet. Whisky is strong. The cognac is there, but not as dominant. Getting nice notes of smoke, raisin, peat, cherries, chocolate, and a bit of must. The barrels really dominate the nose. Taste follows the nose. Really sweet upfront - almost a bit overwhelming. This, I think, drowns out the nice licorice, caramel, roasted malt notes that are typical for the big stouts. This makes the taste a bit one-dimensional. I dare say that this might have spent too much time in barrels. Getting some nice cherry and blackberry flavors, and a bit of chocolate. Maybe some vanilla. Mouthfeel is medium bodied - I would say on the thin side for such a big stout. Overall, a good attempt, but not my favorite from Jopen.
