Sønderborg 7/4 2023. 50 cl bottle from Rewe, Markt, Flensborg. Yellow version of Oettinger’s usual design with a great medal hovering in the center.
Pours opaque unclear, golden yellow with a big, white fluffy head. Stable. Settles as thin but unbroken layer of foam just covering the surface of the beer.
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet odor of wheat malts, a bit of decay and tart notes. Orange lemonade, a bit fermented. A touch of sugar, tart citrus.
Strong carbonation. Thin, oily, lively and tingling texture.
Flavor is moderately intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by a more moderate sourish bitterness. Aftertaste is a tad watery with a light sourness. Lingers shortly. Finish is rather dry.
Lemonade-ish and a bit watery Hefeweizen.

I like hefeweizens, but this is not the best one. Yellow hazy color, medium head, which quickly disappears. Aroma of yeast and fruits. Moderetaely sweet taste. Somewhat watery.

When it comes to price/quality ratio, this is among the definitive winners. As an above-average Hefeweizen for its cheap price, it goes very well at parties and it's decent enough not to create painful hangovers.
It has a pretty nice dark-yellow hazy color with a huge foamy head which persists even after is reduced to a few millimeters thick. Smell is typical of the style, it feels nice, that's it.
The typical banana-flavors of this style are pretty prominent and go toward the sweeter side, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Carbonation is prominent and it feels nice.
Overall, "Quaffable, but far from transcendent".

A: The beer is a bit hazy yellow in color and has a moderate to high amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high white head that died down but consistently left a short head covering the surface.
S: Moderate aromas of banana-like yeast are present in the nose along with hints of spices.
T: The taste follows the smell, except that the spicy flavors of the yeast are a tad bit stronger.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This hefeweizen is a fairly good representation of the style.
Serving type: can

Can - pours a hazy deep gold with a 3 finger puffy cap in the glass...aromas are demure; light malts and some straw and fruity notes...flavor seems malt forward , lightly sweet with some hop balance and fruity esters....long wet finish goes a bit dry...decent commercial Hefe but 2 dimensional

L- Mid-golden, slightly hazy, pours with nice looking 1Cm white head (ps. holds well).
S- Mild weissen notes.
T- The weissen notes are more prominent on the palate, ie there is no doubting the style here. It's a touch more sweet/less hoppy-dry than I'm used to from the style.
F- Carbonation in the mouth is very good, but the overall feel seems a bit under-powered. Perhaps the Feel also suffers simply relative to the prominent taste and lively carbonation?
O- It's pleasant enough as a regular tipple, but I can't see it wowing many fans of weissen. I'd be interested in how it would be if it were in a say 5.4% version...? Meanwhile there are so many other better weissens I see no reason why I'd buy this one again.
Bought from BeersOfEurope/UK for home delivery to me in London. 500ml bottle BB: 12/03/2021
