A 330ml bottle with a BB of June 2018. A Christmas gift given to me by my brother. From a Swiss microbrewery on the shores of lake Geneva; the label describes this as a pale ale.
A: Poured into a tulip. Bottle conditioned. A very hazy amber hue with intense carbonation and tons of fine suspended sediment. Yields a large head of creamy white foam with good retention; this slowly reduces to a persistent surface layer.
S: Aroma of earthy yeast with hints of grainy malt, esters, subtle spice and mild leafiness. Little in the way of hop character. Uninspired (& possibly faded).
T: Tastes of earthy yeast with notes of grainy malt, vague yeast esters, faint spice and a background leafiness. No hop aroma or character. Pretty dry, followed by a subtle herbal bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with spritzy carbonation and decent body. Quite astringent; dries the palate. Aftertaste of earthy yeast, grain and faint leafiness, along with a background note reminiscent of homebrew.
O: Meh - seriously underwhelming. Which is a pity, as I always want to like microbrews. Looks alright, however the aroma and flavour are very yeasty with grainy malt and little hop presence. Body is OK. Drinkable, but missing the key characteristics that make a good pale ale. In date, but possibly faded or refermented in the bottle. I'll have to try a fresher one sometime....
