Two pints on tap at The Paradise in Balsam Lake, WI
L: SRM 2 Pours 99% clear sunny light gold/yellow with a thin white head that recedes to edge foam, light steady carbonation, medium-light soapy lacing.
S: Grains, a little soapy. Essentially non-expressive.
T: A twist of hops then bright malts, grains, a hint of pastry dough, light yeast, in the aftertaste it has a bit of earthy grains and is lightly fruity.
F: Bright, crisp medium to med-light bodied, fairly clean wet middle and a smooth lightly drying finish.
O: A Lager that has some Ale attributes which makes it very easy to drink. Bright, tasty and slightly complex. It is good in its style.

I am trying a 16oz'er of this beer off the tapper at Nutbush City Limits Bar & Restaurant in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. It poured a clear golden with very thin white ring head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had faint grain and white wine flare. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with grain presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a good beer.

Had a can of this down in Rochester... Cool art. Really hoppy, almost like some """IPAs""" I've enjoyed. Exactly what I want when I order one of these. Sweet and malty with a unique flavor profile to the hops. But it falls off hard as it warms so look out. Still a great beer

A pretty decent Helles but not something I will feel the need to drink again. Lacks a head or any legs. Tastes a bit too sweet with a lack of malt character. Slightly buttery but not off putting. Nice body and carbonation makes it easy drinking despite its slight flaws.

Minnesconsin pours a golden color, with a small, little lacing head. Aroma is bold and bright, crisp, nice malt notes. Flavor is filled with flavor, some nice hints of vanilla, very creamy, bright and crisp, and a little more bitter. Good body and feel. Overall, a bit of a bigger Helles, with some great flavors, a little more bitter.

Appearance: Pours a clear, pale, dull orange color with a brown tint. A small, white head. SRM of 9-10 (3.50)

Aroma: Light aromas of lightly buttermilk biscuit upfront. Some bread and suds. Clean pale biscuit malts w/ hints of ground stone & earthy spice. (4.00)

Flavor: Light flavors of faintly sweetened buttered biscuit/bread. A mild, watery sweetness finishes. No honey nor too sweet. Relatively dry. Just rides on the sweetness of the pale, plain biscuit malt. No hops so it allows the pale biscuit malt to come through. Very mild and clean though. Finishes malty, but incredibly dry with only hints of earthy German spice. (4.00)

Feel: Lighter-bodied. Moderate carbonation. Rather clean and not much left on the palate. Simple. (3.50)

Compared to Surly's First Ave 3/22/20: Pours a slightly duller, darker color, otherwise similar. Aroma is more dulled. More pale biscuit. Less lemon citrus and zest. Less hops, lighter, and cleaner.

Compared to Lakes & Legend's 5-Weight Cream Ale 4/5/20: Pours a darker, pale, brown color. Stronger biscuit aromas than classic American malt liquor and corn. Much stronger buttermilk biscuit malt flavors. Less corn, malt liquor and hops. Leans maltier but similarly balance of dry/sweetness.

Overall: An extremely simple Helles lager. Light and simple. No hops here. Malts, but no honey or corn adjuncts like in many beers. No Munich malts either. I'm only getting pale lightly buttered biscuit malts probably from the Briess malts they used locally from Wisconsin. Have to respect that. Appreciate the locally grown grains. Not hoppy like a pilsner but not German or Munich malty like a normal Helles. It's like a restrained, locally malty lager for what it's worth. Not bad. (Final Rating: 3.87)

Pours a fairly clear golden color. The head is white, 1 finger, but not long lasting, at all.
The nose is mild. There's a slight malt to it, but not much else.
Taste - lighter flavored. Slight malt, slightly sweet.
Light bodied, but crisp feeling.
It is what it is, but it is good for the style. Fairly easy drinking.
