This was another beer that I picked up out at Crane Flat in Yosemite National Park last summer and took a while to get around to. This was a an awesome-looking label and to have it feature El Capitan was a plus. Thankfully, the liquid was pretty spiffy too as it went down nicely while not quite feeling like similar brews from that neck of the woods.
Not a bad pour to this as the liquid was a bright gold that let in quite a bit of light when held up. Enough head topped it off and one thick and wavy ring of lacing remained as I worked my way through this. A bit of dark sediment floated in the liquid, as that was probably due to this beer's age. Fruit cocktail, swamp water, dewy forest, and weed were in the somewhat muddled nose as jack fruit, passion fruit, white chocolate sweetness, and deep tropical fruit came through once this warmed up. Somewhat slick in feel, the oily and resinous undertone was the giveaway that this was indeed, brewed in California.
There was a bit of mint and underlying dankness that stuck around in the aftertaste as the carbonation was quite light. Canned on 4/17 of last year, only a hint of warming served as a indication of this beer's potency as it held up well over the intervening months. This was a fun American IPA that felt more like a an American Pale Ale, as it easily deserved another go-around!
