Nicely smoked with a sharp flavor rather than the typical peaty mellowness. There's even a sourish hint. Malty tang and modest hops. Aftertaste of burnt malt and smoke.

This pours an odd brown amber color with a nice lacey head. Lots of carbonation, with yeast clouding the clarity some. A bit austere but interesting smoke flavors. [From April 2010 tasting notes in Haarlem, NL]

A smoked Porter from Klein Duimpje, which pours a dark brown color with a silky head that drops into a fine layer of foam.

The smell is smokey with beech smoked notes. There are light woody, bandaid, iodine and light roasted notes.

The taste is lightly roasted, coffee and chocolate with the beech wood smoke as a mild layer on top. The smoke grows and I get used to the woody and slight band-aid-like flavors. Then it adds a nice complexity which in combination with the light roast is perfect.

Poured from a 330ml bottle into a tulip glass

Dark Chestnut brown in colour with a big frothy head (2 fingers initially)

Smells of sweetened malt, spices, burnt toffee/caramel and a very slight smoked flavour (maybe 15% the intensity of a Schlenkerla Marzen!)

Tastes slightly sweeter than I expected, especially the finish

malty, but less so in taste than smell, but disappointingly not a lot of smoking apparent!

Mouthfeel was ok but nothing special, a little too much carbonation for this style of beer (in my opinion)

Overall - didn't do what it said on the tin, more akin to a strong English Porter (which if you forgive my rough Dutch translation, I think it did allude to this on the label), but very much a Rausch 'light light' !

Pours in to my glass dark brown with enough carbonation that you can see medium to large bubbles on the side of the glass. Nice big fluffy head that leaves peaks and very nice puffy lacing.

Smells sweet, malty, a spicy yeasty zest, and smokey meaty goodness

Tastes very malty and quite robust. Much more dark fruits than I expected, and some sweet roast meat (maybe bbq pork). Unfortunately less smoky than the name suggests, but Maybe my expectations were too high there though. A slight metallic aftertaste was not all that bad but could have been cleaner, ended slightly bitter and dry.

M/D - A bit more carbonated than I would have liked and not overly smooth. Although I do like the beer and the style the flavor is a bit intense and would not lend itself to drinking more than one.
