Pours a lovely clear amber with two fingers of sandy-colored head. Modest retention, but it leaves a nice, sloppy crown and at least some lacing, which are fairly impressive for the style.
Toffee, caramel, vanilla and some clear whiskey in the nose. There’s a touch of pepperiness to it from the rye.
Spicier tasting, but without much alcohol heat. There are hints of plum and leather, but the caramel and vanilla are what really shine.
On the light side of medium bodied, fairly smooth, with just enough carbonation to keep things lively.
This is a real treat. Great flavors, and not as hot and heavy as some in the genre. Still a sipper, but dangerously drinkable for a barleywine. Great stuff.

2020 version.Poured from the growler a deep rich amber with a sticky light khaki colored head atop that left a full ring of lace as it settled slowly.Big caramel notes in the nose along with spicy rye tinged with vanilla, some hotness from the alcohol is there but is expected.Wow the decadence and depth malty flavors are great, big caramel and vanilla with a hefty spiciness that is as warming as all get out, thru it all there is some drying effect in the finish wich allows the drinkability to stay pretty high in spite of its size. One of the better beers this year for me,it's big but to me more easy to drink than alot of the style.
