I had this at the brewpub (Im Ausschank).
A: Almost black, with a slight ruby-brown hue. Off-white head, great retention and lace.
S: Very malty: Bread, prune, raisin.
T: Dark bread, molases, some dark fruit (raisin, prune), a little chocolate, pleasant spice (tettnanger or spalt hops?), subtle hint of tartness (like cherries in a fruit-cake). Slightly balanced to the sweet side, but a good amount of bitterness to back it up. Exceptional.
M: Full body, moderate to high carbonation, a little syrupy, with a slight hint of chalkyness in the finish.
D: Almost exceptional.
Truly one of the best Dopplebocks.
I liked this enough to purchase a 2L Growler (and haul it back over the Atlantic in my carry-on)!
I openned the growler & had it back-to-back with the Korbinian. This one's a shade darker and slightly maltier. There's a little more dark malt fruityness & bitterness, with plenty of molases flavour as well. The mouthfeel is definitely heavier and more syrupy.
The Korbinian is less sweet (actually has a hint of tartness), with more spicy hop flavour. I think it's more well rounded & drinkable. That said, the Domhof is still a slight small step up from the Celebrator (which I think is a step up from any other offering).
