Light chocolate and roast. A hearty-yet drinkable English beer with some up from creaminess and a medium finish.

Pours an attractive dark brown, edge clarity; light brown brown creamy looking head, bubbly top frothy bottom; lines of lacing from first pour.
Nose is predominantly chocolate, powder-like; spent coffee grounds, light fruitiness and roast.
Taste is more coffee like than nose; chocolate malt balls, dark fruit still present, damp earth; restrained roast dominates on the finish.
Body is light, it comes off a tad thin; the soft carbonation helps a little though, clean, drying finish with good roast driven bitterness.

Had on cask. Brownish black opaque body with a khaki head with layers of lacing. Baker's chocolate and cocoa with roasted malt and earthy nuts in the nose. Taste has the chocolate roasted malt up front, but the back end has wet earth, dried dark fruit, and a kiss of coffee grounds. Feel is lush and dry with roast and bite while staying artfully smooth, though a touch light.

Appearance: Served up a very dark brown body capped off with a light sandy-toned head.
Smell: Dark malts suggestive of dark breadcrust, cooked nuts, very faint unsweetened cocoa. Slight ale fruitiness.
Taste: Dark malts, overly toasted breadcrusts, nut meal, cola and unsweetened cocoa powder. Lightly leafy, woody hops with a minimal bitterness. Drying, dark malt finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-soft carbonation.
Overall: Pretty solid.

Appearance: Clear, dark brown. Mousse-like, off white head with good retention.
Aroma: Malt forward with roast, chocolate and coffee notes.
Flavor: Closely follows aroma. No burnt flavors though. Mild bitterness, drying.
Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied. Low carbonation. Dry.
Overall: Terrific English style porter. Malty with the expected roasted malt notes but zero burnt flavors. Low bitterness. Drinks very nicely at the 4% abv. This would be excellent on cask (which Good Word Brewing has!).

Taster:
Decent coffee vibe on first whiff, then more of a mix of dark roast coffe and lightly roasted malts. Could have a smoother feel, but the fairly strong roasted flavors are somewhat impressive on a 4% beer. Bitterness feels roast-driven, and there’s a light nutty aspect to the mostly dry finish.
