Pours a rich, cloudy mahogany, big, fluffy 3" head with excellent retention and lacing. Nose is very dry toasted malt, earthy and fresh hop, toasted barley. Taste is delicate with light toffee and toasted malt, barley, and very little sweetness; finish is more roast. Mouthfeel is extremely clean with crisp and refreshing carbonation; a tiny bit creamy. Overall, this was a really great random pick up.

Appearance: Dark saddle brown, slightly hazy, fluffy off white head, good retention.
Aroma: Herbal/peppery hops, bready hops
Flavor: Bready, nutty malt on the front end. Spicy/herbal hops on the back end. Moderate bitterness. Well balanced.
Mouth feel: Smooth. Full bodied. Semi-dry.
Overall: Missed on color and clarity. It a saddle brown to dark brown but does have some amber/ruby highlights noticeable. Slightly hazy. Flavors are in spec with prominent nuttiness and herbal hops. Bitterness well balances sweetness. Finish is relatively dry. This is the canned version and the draft version at the brewery is actually notably better. This brewery rarely misses (it's really only on color and clarity that they missed on) but they always improve when they do. This is their first go a Altbier, so I expect some tweaks the next time around. Still a good tasting beer.
