Appearance: Clear dark brown with ruby highlights. Developed no head when poured.
Aroma: Big dark fruit notes; plumbs, figs, prunes and raisins. Alcohol aroma is moderate to high.
Flavor: Dark fruits, plumbs, figs, prunes and raisins. Very sweet, not quite cloying. Alcohol is well hidden behind sweetness.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied, mouth coating, virtually no carbonation No astringency.
Overall: Hard one to judge. Nice looking beer but pours to no head. Big malty/dark fruit flavor and aroma. Very sweet but does not seem to tip over to cloying. Warming. Alcohol is apparent in aroma but more well hidden by malt backbone. Virtually no carbonation. Barrel aging characteristics are not in the forefront. High marks for aroma and flavor. Carbonation is a little lacking but age probably affected this and the carbonation level. Still a very enjoyable BW that avoids overly sweet character. Easy to sip on a cold winter evening.
