Appearance: Dark brown with garnet highlights. Fluffy khaki head with moderate retention.
Aroma: Dark fruit, a hint of chocolate. Alcohol noticeable.
Flavor: Spicy, dark fruit and hints of chocolate. Sweet impression on front end but finish is drying. Restrained bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied, warming. Long finish. Moderate to low carbonation.
Overall: Pretty good effort here. GWB played fast and loose with the sweetness. It starts out making you think it's as sweet as a barleywine but it finishes nice and dry. Alcohol is notable in both the aroma and flavor but not off putting. A pleasant warming on the palate with a lengthy finish. Displays nice malt complexity in both the aroma and flavor with some interesting esters. Good quality Belgian Quad style.
