Appearance: Dark brown. No head.
Aroma: Rich and sweet. Dark fruits. Wood barrel note. Moderate alcohol note.
Flavor: Sweet, but not cloying. Dark fruit, whisky and wood notes. Alcohol is very well hidden. Restrained bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied and slick.
Overall: Quite nice. Bottled in 2022, so it has mellowed quite a bit. Of note, while you can get a whiff of the alcohol in the nose, it's pretty well hidden in the flavor. Well oiled is a good moniker, because this has a very slick mouthfeel. It's sweet vs a stout but does not go overboard to cloying like many barleywines. Not bitter. Barrel and whisky notes support the beer but don't detract. Good sipper. I'd buy again.
