Pours a clear, medium dark brown color; semi-opaque dark amber-brown in the glass; thick, frothy head, long-lasting, semi-creamy with a rolling, hilly top; light khaki toned. Pleasant, unassuming mild malt sweetness on the nose; barest hint of toffee. Very pleasant malt base complemented with an tasteful understated smokiness; very mild toffee quality; light to moderate bitterness. Medium bodied; enough residual sugar presence provides a bit of 'oomph' to the mouthfeel; very light stickiness.
I wavered between an overall 3.75 and 4.0 for the beer, but as I spend a bit of time with the beer, it really grows on me. The smokiness really didn't present itself in the smell, but it worked its subliminal magic in the taste. This is a very nice low ABV dark beer with a tasteful dash of smokiness to set it apart from other beers in its league.
