Copenhagen 1/6 2024. 33 cl bottle from Rewe, Süderquerweg, Hamburg. Dark Grey label with a drawing of a Goat’s head en face and the name of the beer in green letters. It is the 2023 version I am drinking.
Pours opaque dark brown with a big light beige head. Settles as a thin, almost transparent layer of foam stretching to cover the surface of the beer. Substantial lacing.
Aroma is fairly intense with a dark and roasted, malty odor mingling with a scent of dark alcohol. Whiff of citrus fruit. Dark roasted malts, caramel and toffee. Brown sugar and bread. Metallic alcohol. Lemon.
Light carbonation. Medium thick, oily, soft, smooth, almost flat texture.
Flavor is intense with a strong sugary sweetness followed by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter with a notable sweet undertone. Lingers for a while. Finish is semi-dry with a touch of alcohol.
Quite sweet and sugary dark Doppel Bock.
