a neat porter here with a load of maple syrup in it. its rich and roasty and coffee hinted in the aroma and flavor, well balanced by natural maple syrup. they could have stopped here and had a very good beer, but the addition of white chocolate, butterscotch, and pecans makes this desserty and intense, a bit more sweet than i think it needs to be, the maple takes care of that well enough, and this extra is overkill to me, maybe more like a slice of pie, but unnecessary. the pecans are the most subtle element in aroma and flavor, i want them to be more forward here, but the heavy sweetness mutes them in the mix. i like the base porter, its roasty and smooth, and i love the maple, the other elements dont really belong to me, and while i like the flavor of the beer, it ends up being so sticky sweet as to be pretty undrinkable, i like the first few sips, but after that its just too much. they had a good thing going, but took it a little too far. that was the collective opinion of our table as we passed this one around. a small pour is plenty...
