This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells sweet and roasty, with some caramelized pumpkin flavors, a touch of spice, and lots of chocolate.
This is much better than I thought it would be. There’s a light but pleasant barrel character here, spicy and slightly caramelly. There’s actual pumpkin flavor here – that’s not always the case with pumpkin beers. It’s got a caramelized, earthy, and sweet flavor that melds well with the bourbon notes. There’s oak, and lots of chocolate as well, as well a fairly subtle spice character. I appreciate that the whole spice cabinet was not added to this one.
This is medium bodied, maybe a touch thin on the finish, but it’s really not too bad.
K2 has had some excellent barrel aged beers, but also some truly awful ones. The consistency isn’t there, but I got a good one with this one.
