On tap at K2 Brewery in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a slightly murky looking golden brown color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like rich caramel candy – Rolos, and the like, with some chocolate, and lots of oak.
K2’s barrel aged beers range from basically undrinkable garbage to some of the best beers available locally – the range in quality is almost impressive. This luckily swings towards the favorable end of that meter. The base barleywine has been rendered really silky and warming by the barrel aging – there’s tons of sweet, silky, and creamy caramel here, with a light toasted oak note, and a pleasant milk chocolate note.
This is medium bodied, not very boozy, and really quite drinkable for the style.
I wish more of K2’s beers tasted like this – this was most certainly a winner.
