I don't see a date but on the label it states "2019 VOLUME 2 OF 5."
Appearance: The body is a very deep bronze that is beautiful. It has excellent clarity and a dense but short white head. Good head retention and lacing. The coloring is gorgeous.
Aroma: It smells of coffee grounds and a bit like dried peppers.
Taste: It has an overly sweet sugar flavor mixed with an earthy character. It is reminiscent of a sweet tea with way too much sugar. The aftertaste is just as sweet as it is in the beginning. At times a bit of coffee comes throgh, once the palate has become acclimatized by the sweetness, but it feels out of place.
Mouthfeel: It is smooth and very easy to drink. The label claims this as "ABV.... 10.5%" and it does an amazing job of hiding it. The body is medium-light and overall just pleasant.
Oerall: Pastries don't have to be overly sweet and this beer relies way too much on sugary sweetness to carry its pastry namesake. This beer (from the label) claims to be "Aged in Barbados Rum Barrels with Coffee and Cacao." It certainly has a coffee flavor but it doesn't really taste like rum or cacao. It's still enjoyable if you have a very strong sweet tooth. I don't know if I would drink it again but I did find it enjoyable. It is worth trying at least once if you like very, very sweet things.
