One of the best American takes on a Quad!!! Pours a dark, dense reddish brown with lots of red highlights. Surprisingly prominent head, brown fizzy and fairly small. Not much in the way of retention, but a bigger head than most beers of this strength. No lacing on my Chimay goblet. Aroma and taste feature the usual Quad elements: dark fruit (cherries, figs, plums etc), plenty of malt and some candi sugar. Oak bitterness and bourbon barrel flavor are there but more subtle, pretty much on a not-to-interfere basis with the regular Quad elements. Mouthfeel is very rich, smooth (except for a bit of alcohol "bite" and some bitterness from the oak barrel) with candi sugarsweetness along with the rich malt. I'll have to try the Rum Barrel Quad too...that one is even stronger!!!! This is a very good beer.
