Appearance: The body is a deep ruby purple color that still allows dark shadows through the glass. It is dark but the good clarity is still apparent. The head is medium-short and creamy textured with tight bubbles. It has a light pinkish-white colored head. It has good retention and some nice sheets of lacing.
Aroma: It has a tart strawberry aroma that smells a lot like strawberry Starburst. It is a soft and simple aroma but it is very pleasant.
Taste: Up front there is a flavor of strawberry and raspberry. The flavors stay the same throughout the transition across the palate. The aftertaste is just like strawberry Starburst.
Mouthfeel: There is a light tartness to the beer. It feels light and effervescent on the palate. It finishes slightly off-dry. It feels fantastic. Great drinkability. It is noteworthy that the can states that this is "7.5% ALC/VOL." and it hides the alcohol exceptionally well.
Overall: It's an awesome beer. The can states that this is an "IMPERIAL RASPBERRY HIBISCUS SOUR ALE." The hibiscus doesn't really seem to come through on its own but the raspberry does. The interesting thing about this beer is that it tastes and smells a lot like strawberries. This flavor and aroma in the beer is simple but very good. It would work well if paired with a dessert like vanilla cake the same way a strawberry would be paired in a strawberry shortcake. I would definitely buy this again. I would highly recommend it. This is a very welcome high-bar from New Realm.
