Latin for "happy and dark", this stout is a dark, roasty, chocolatey beast. The "darkness" of this stout comes from the complex malt variations, giving it added depth of flavor. The "happiness" comes from the orange slices we threw into the boil, giving it a robust, crisp finish.

The ABV on the can tells me this is way too bit to be a regular American stout, I opted for a snifter due to what is most likely this beer is meant to be.
The appearance was a semi-thick black color with a thin wisp of white foamy head that swiftly slid off. Not much lace at all.
The aroma had a nice blend of milk to dark chocolate then a light coffee roast. Light coffee ash/char grind.
The flavor yields to a semi-grinding roastiness initially and then subsides ever so slightly with some orange peel/juice. Honestly, I don't even know how I pick up the orange, it's just so far away. Aftertaste is of sweet ash, dark chocolate and roasty coffee bean.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied. Distractible dryness makes it a sipper. Carbonation and ABV felt as projected. Mild sticky finish, somewhat with the dark chocolate.
Overall, nice to try but I'm sticking to my guns - this isn't an American stout but an Imperial one. Still, it's one I'd have again. Thanks Russ!

Pours an effervescent & murky mahogany with 3+ fingers of mocha colored head. Average lacing & below average head retention
S: Coffee & cocoa, roastyness & a little vanilla as well
T: Roasty dryness, coffee grinds, just a little vanilla nibbling at the edges up front. Some roastyness, a little orange peel bitterness & a little charred grain once warm. Coffee grinds, some dryness & a hint of oranges & vanilla in the finish
MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation, thins out as this warms
Starts out promising but kind of falls apart as this warms. Hard to believe this is almost 9% ABV

On tap. Pours midnight black with a fingernail head that doesn't leave lacing. Nose of roasted malt and burnt citrus. Taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, and oak. Medium-full body and low carbonation that has a nice creaminess to it.
Good, roasty stout. It's absolutely velvety and a pleasure to drink. The citrus got lost in the wood and malt but it survived in the aroma.
