A well balanced session beer with a crisp hoppy bitterness,
with a late malty flavour coming through.

A: Whisky-coloured body with a smallish head.
T: Nutty and very toasty indeed, like the burned crust of brown bread. Also has a not too subtle smokey bacon quality. Medium sweet. Some mild fruit in the aftertaste.
O: Quite yummy but gets boring towards the end.

Had this beer recently at my local Wetherspoon's pub in East End London. Mauldons' beers are usually very good on draught. But as the brewery has now moved to a new site, maybe this pint can be a witness to their quality/consistency control?
A: pale amber hue, a very low-carbonated body, with very thin layer of big, white bubbles...
S: moderately malty, with some softly-tuned citrusy-fruity hops, like Fuggles, at the back. Simplistic, but soft and nice.
T: not-too-sweet maltiness upfront, with hints of dark malts as well as pale malts, supported by a refreshing floral and slightly grassy hoppy backbone; gradually grape-fruit peel's bitterness develops in the mouth, and finished quite flatly bitter like partially-fermented Chinese whole-leaf tea.
M: overall refreshing and lively on the palate, true to the standard of a fresh cask ale; the finishing touch is clean, leaving the nice bitterness (fruity+floral) to roam freely deep down the tongue.
D: a more-ish, solid bitter; moderately-flavoured, yet full of more pleasant and underlying bitter elements awaiting to be discovered. Good beer.
