(Notes of 07/07/07) Tasted by a half-pint, sparkler-pour at the Devonshire Cat, Sheffield.
A: pale golden, a light white froth leaves very tight lacing behind, on top of low fizziness.
S: the exotic fruitiness upfront is lightly lemony, grapefruity, and zesty, backed by a light but creamy maltiness in the background with a trace of sulphur.
T: juicy & fresh flowery notes and mildly peach-blossomy hops flow freely from the start; spiciness and tangy zests catch up later, added by milder buttery & sulphurous flavour and a belated entry of biscuity malts (just the maltiness that one might expect from a traditional Marris-Otter dominated English pale ale). The finish is clean, tangy hoppy, with an incredible length of bitterness cutting through.
M&D: refreshingly hoppy and mildly fizzy, medium-bodied, this is an extremely quaffable, hoppy summer Golden Bitter... I can't agree with BSF more, that such a pale little one can pack so much weight and flavour~~

Pours a clear golden yellow with a foamy white head that leaves a solid layer of foam all the way down the glass. Some biscuity malts and citrusy hops in the nose. Biscuit malt and citrusy (hints of grapefruit) hops are balanced nicely in the taste. The balance continues through to the finish. Nothing stunning, but a decent pale ale. Creamy mouthfeel from the cask-conditioning. A drinkable session beer.
