a sturdy coffee brown ale, a well made beer, and my first from dual citizen, who was generally pretty impressive. this is a lot darker than a lot of these ever get. so many seem to rely on the coffee to do the roasty bitter flavoring instead of the grain, and i often enjoy that, but here i like what the darkest of the malts contributes, a baking cocoa and a not quite roasted but well past toasted richness, really nice layer with the coffee too. there is some sweetness here, a molasses and malty middle sweet, but the coffee cuts it with a little acidity and some nice low end bitterness that comes on late, so it finishes a little more well rounded than it starts. the coffee is well dosed and fresh, but not incredibly unique in the sense that this doesnt jump out at me as world class espresso or anything, but i like what it adds. the beer has good body and fine carbonation, and while it might be a little sweeter than i want for a beer i am going to make a night of, i really enjoyed my pint!
