Think I got a bad one...tastes awful. It was really really sour and didn't smell like any porter I've ever had. (It did look normal though.) I immediately Googled "Can you get sick from a bad beer" and was glad to see that various pathogens can't survive in beer. I got it from a build-your-own 6 pack in NV and the only marks on the bottle were 15BCBIBH. Oh and blown in to the glass at the bottom was 06 17 41s but I'm guessing that's the bottle dimensions.

Quite be a bit of carbonation for a porter, pours a dark chocolate with reddish guess. Strong roasted malts, thin, with a slight hint of coffee on the finish. Not bad but better choices out there.

A: Dark black in color with a light tan head.

S: Chocolate and caramel Something off in the smell. Almost a chemical smell, or perhaps faintly rotten malt... possibly brine?

T: Muh! Metallic, and funky. Rough roasted malts that leave taste a touch funky, then leave making it seem watery.

M: Medium thin, with fairly high carbonation.

O: Overall, just pass.

Dark, blackish color with some ruby red tints at the edges.

Aroma of roasted malt. That's about it but it's a clean scent.

Flavor on entry is coffeeish, roasted malt and that's the profile it keeps.

Not much to say about this well made but fairly nondescript Porter. Guinness does it all a lot better and costs less.

Very nice black color with some ruby highlights around the edge of the glass. A solid three fingers of a light brown head that starts out thick and begins to turn to large bubbles. Lots of visible carbonation and just a hint of lacing.

Smell is fairly light. Some stone fruits and roasted malts but you have to really sniff to pick this up. The odor I really get is of some sweetness.

Taste is of very roasty malts. Not picking up a lot more than the roasted malts. A bit of bitterness on the taste that seems to come from that roasted malt.

Mouth feel seems fairly light and wet followed by a wet finish.

Overall this beer is worth a try by fans of the dark beers. Just be warned this one is a bit more on the lighter side of that scale when it comes to dark beers. I enjoyed this beer for its ease in drinking it. Unlike some of the bigger chewier dark beers this was a thinner and easier drinking variety of darkness.

12 oz bottle from an Atlanta area Kroger served in a goblet.
Dark, clear brown body with ruby edges. The head is beige, fizzy and mostly short-lived.
This porter has a notable peat and earthy aspect, with some coffee in the aftertaste.
Medium body with lively carbonation.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, dark fruit, and toasted dark bread; with light notes of smoke, char, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Okay aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, fruity yeast, and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. A bit too fruity/yeasty, but not horrible. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, and toasted dark bread; with light notes of smoke, char, dark fruit, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted dark bread, light smoke/dark fruit, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with great roasted bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying/acrid flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from hop/roast bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.7%. Overall this is a very solid American porter. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish. The overpowering fruity yeast nose pretty much ruined it for me, but the taste was nice. Pretty unremarkable, but fits the style really well. Fairly generic tasting porter malt profile; mild hop balance with a bit of complementing fruity yeast notes in the flavor. An enjoyable offering.
