Red-tinted black with a fat finger of dark tan head. It looks sort of like one of those fizzy soda heads, but does last a minute or two. Solid lacing.
Smells like a milk stout that’s heavy on the brownie batter and vanilla additions. Not much coffee or RIS depth upon first whiff.
The taste has a similarly muddled quality. More like a milk stout with tons of vanilla, as well as some chocolate. There is a hard-to-place fruitiness mid-palate that reminds me of flavored Coke. Alcohol bite, cola, vanilla all show in the finish, along with a some lingering acerbically-bitter baking chocolate/coffee grounds.
Silky, medium bodied feel with slow-building carbonation.
This is a beer that’s decidedly less than the sum of its parts. The base beer is completely stepped on by the vanilla. And, to my taste, the coffee and vanilla do not work well together at all. 11/04/19 canned on date.
