Glossy black with an airy moderate tan foam head.
I did not imagine that chocolatey stout, orange, and barrel--let alone vanilla and marshmallow--would go so well together, but my god these are all working together in perfect harmony.
The barrel contributes a sort of caramelized brown sugar and nougat expression, which itself surfaces after the rounded medium body introduces primarily as dark chocolate. Thereafter, gooey orange jelly slices provide a popping accent before all the vanilla and marshmallow come in with a lusciousness that suggests a deeper, darker bean angle, adding heavy pastry vibes without being cloying. In fact, the vanilla in concert with the barrel even begins to exude a mocha flavor in the semi-dry finish.
That was all after one sip. Upon the second visit, the orange now fully inhabits the nose, but delicately so, and a slightly more floral orange comes back in taste as well, but that mocha note from the vanilla and chocolatey malt working together with the notable barrel char is amazing.
A mild roastiness surfaces more as it warms, but at the same time, the orange does take over towards these final sips near the end.
