Taking the citrusy taste of Gose to a more tropical place, the brewers at Virgina's Rocket Frog brewery gets together a rather traditional Northern German sour ale and goes to the beach with a generous addition of pink guava.
Kai Gose to the Beach pours a rather cloudy golden-straw hue before crowning with a white swath of sea foam. Leading with a tangy, tropical and exotic perfume, its guava influence is a tad stronger than its winey, citrusy, wheaty perfume underneath. Light on sweetness, the taste of saltwater taffy, sourdough and honeysuckle decorate the early palate.
And as the thirst quenching ale washes the middle palate with acidity, a lime, lemon, passionfruit, gooseberry, white grape and kiwi medley leap right out. The juiciness of guava provides a zesty, racy and fruity complement to the recipe before the ale zips right onto the late palate with a dry sourness of margarita and sangria.
Medium light in texture, the remnants of wheat and the roundness of salinity keep the textures and taste enlivened while trending crisp, clean and highly refreshing. Effortless on the finish the ale extends briefly with citrus with overtones of burlap and tonic.
