The beer pours a nice off-white head that dissipates fairly quickly while the beer itself is a hazy brown color.

The smell is pretty good. It has a good caramel and dark fruit note with a moderate maple syrup note and burnt sugar note alongside a good bitter hop note. The finish has a good mix of bourbon and a hint of rye coming out as well.

The taste is good. It has the same caramel and dark fruit notes that are a bit milder than the smell. However, the spirits come out more and the rye adds a nice spice to it. The hop bitterness is light and there is a slight alcohol note in the finish. There is also a nice vanilla finish as well.

The feel is good. It has a heavy body with a bit of smoothness and a tiny carbonated bite.

Overall, a pretty good barleywine worth getting.

Look: Dark brown with crystal ruby highlights in the light. Slightly more than a finger of creamy off-white head with excellent retention.

Smell: Sweet bread dough, plums, figs, milk chocolate.

Taste: Sweet dough, hop bitterness, faint roast aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Thick, creamy body with good carbonation.

Overall: A little too bitter, but otherwise a strong contender.

Sampler pour:
This came on strong and sweet, but mellowed our slightly as I sipped the small pour slowly.

Clear perfect amber with a nice ring and some lacing. Nose is brown sugar, caramel, and dark rum without much of a hint of bitterness.

Taste opens sweet but more restrained than the nose. Same flavors but there’s at least some woodsy hop bitterness trying to use dental floss as a tether. Clean but boozy feel - definitely a bite on this one.

More of a no holds barred boozy English BW in my opinion. Dial the sweetness and booze back a bit and this could jump a couple notches.
