Barrel-Aged Milk Stout with coconut, chocolate, lactose, and vanilla.
We took our German chocolate cake inspired stout and aged it in a Catoctin Creek Rye Whiskey barrel for 10 months. Enjoy the notes of Rye Whiskey melded with coconut, chocolate, and vanilla. Incredibly delicious!

500ml bottle poured into a tulip.
It pours dark brown and clear but fills in the glass black and opaque. The two finger mocha colored head is a lighter shade on top and takes several minutes to fade to a perpetual ring. The foam is fairly thick and leaves small bits of lace behind. At first the robust nose is dominated by a sweet butterscotch-like aroma but eventually notes of coconut and vanilla come through.
Tasting malt forward and very sweet led by the same sugary butterscotch note from the nose with roasted, chocolate and toffee malt to a lesser degree and some hints of coconut. Mouthfeel is medium-full, soft and creamy with medium-low carbonation. OK overall but it is a little muddy and very sweet, not quite cloying to my palate but more sweet then I would prefer and I 'm not getting any specific barrel flavors or aromas. I would like to try the base beer to see if the big butterscotch character has any thing to do with the Rye Whiskey barrel.
