A 330ml bottle with a BB of July 2018. Purchased recently from B&M. The label describes it as a pale ale hopped with antipodean varities: Nelson Sauvin, Motueka and Galaxy.
A: Poured into a tulip. A crystal-clear golden colour with low carbonation. Forms a decent head of frothy white foam that lasts for a moment before settling and dissipating.
S: Aroma of light caramel malt with hints of buttery diacetyl, mild grain, ale yeast, hay, subtle leafiness and faint fruity notes. Distinctly subpar - needs longer maturation and the hop character barely makes itself known.
T: Tastes of crisp, zesty hops with notes of citrus, peel, mild pine resin, weed, grass/hay, leafiness, ale yeast, pale malt and a whiff of diacetyl in the background. Pretty dry, followed by a robust hoppy bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with soft carbonation and decent body. Lightly astringent. Aftertaste of bitter resinous hops, citrus zest, ale yeast and faint malt.
O: A reasonable yet flawed effort. Quite poor looks - clear, almost flat and no head. The aroma is also surprisingly bland but the flavour is much better with some solid hop bitterness on display. Body is OK for the strength. Drinkable but not outstanding; would probably be improved by conditioning with live yeast. No need to hunt it down.
